Player Matrix

Issue

A problem with team sports is that a particular team may have a greater number of skilled athletes than other teams that may end up dominating play. While such an advantage may be great for the local team, the situation creates an unfair level of competition for the sport that should be corrected if possible.
Solution

Require team sports to adopt a player matrix system that evenly distributes players among the teams. Three tiers of ranking, representing players from best to worst, should be used to allow teams to allocate points within each tier to build their organization. Players will be assigned values based on an established formula (e.g., coaches reflect 50% of the vote, owners 25%, fans 25%, or some other ratio).

All players become free agents at the end of the season that allows teams to freely trade according to matrix rules. Since each team will have a limited number of points that they may spend within a particular tier, the problem of having too many tier-1 players on a team would be eliminated making the sport more competitive.

Further justification for using a player matrix system is that the federal government has laws to ensure fair competition among businesses, so sporting events should likewise be required to follow similar rules as well.
Other Considerations

To prevent the excessive greed of high-level salaries ruining the sports industry, a player's pay may also be incorporated into the matrix system. In other words, each tier would set a maximum limit regarding a player's salary based on their particular skill level.

For example, a tier-1 player may make a maximum $250,000 for the season, which is about the best that an average person may make as an executive of a small business to put in comparison. An additional 15% bonus may be included to incentivize play (e.g., touchdowns scored).

An important reason for the salary cap, other than the obvious to stomp out excessive greed, is that emphasis would be given to the players for the need to further their education and to pursue a professional career other than just participating in a sporting event.
